Army of the Dead (2021)

Release Date: May 14th in select theaters; May 21st, 2021 on Netflix

Director: Zack Snyder

Written by: Shay Hatten, Joby Harold & Zach Snyder. Story by Zach Snyder.

A zombie outbreak starts in Area 51 and spreads to Las Vegas, eventually taking over the whole Strip. The city is walled off and left for 6 years.

Bly is a casino owner who wants to get his money out of his casino’s vault. He approaches Scott Ward, a zombie war hero, with a 50 million dollar offer to do the job. He forms a team of mercenaries (and a safe expert) to enter the walled city and attempt a heist at Bly’s Casino.

He and his team have 32 hours to battle through zombies, open the vault, and get out of Las Vegas before the city is nuked on the Fourth of July.

Announced in June 2008, Universal Studios and Warner Bros. Entertainment were on board to co-produce the project. Matthijs van Heijningen Jr. signed on to serve as director.

By January 2019, after lingering in development Hell for a number of years, Netflix acquired the distribution rights to the project from Warner Bros., with Zack Snyder returning to the series as director. The film entered principal photography in mid-2019.

In August 2020, Tig Notaro was announced to replace D’Elia, who was cut from the film due to sexual misconduct allegations. Notaro will be inserted into the film through a combination of reshooting scenes opposite an acting partner and also using digital compositing to insert her into the scene.

Principal photography began on July 15, 2019, in Los Angeles, California, and Albuquerque, New Mexico. Filming also took place at the now closed Atlantic Club Casino Hotel in Atlantic City, New Jersey, as well as Showboat.
